Wireless access is available to all current staff and students and guest access for visitors can be arranged by contacting the IT Service Desk. UniWide can be accessed via any WiFi-enabled laptop or mobile device that supports WPA wireless security. For more information visit the About UniWide page.

Illegal Download Warning

The UNSW Wireless network is presently provided free of charge to improve the student experience while at UNSW. Unfortunately a minority of irresponsible users choose to illegally download copyright material such as movies, videos, music and games. Such actions place the both the University and the individual responsible at risk of litigation for copyright infringement.

Penalties for illegal downloading include loss of access to the wireless network for up to one session; a formal disciplinary letter from the University and a fine of up to $1,000.

Acceptable use - UniWide

Access to the UniWide wireless network is currently provided free of charge to all users. However, UniWide is a shared resource with limited bandwidth. Users are strongly discouraged from running bandwidth intensive applications. UniWide should not be considered a replacement to a wired network connection.

All activity on the wireless network is monitored and users are expected to abide by all relevant UNSW policies. These policies include but are not limited to:

  • Conditions of Use - UNSW ICT Resources
  • Acceptable Use of UNSW Information and Communication Technology Resources
  • UNSW IT Security Policy
These policies can be found at: www.it.unsw.edu.au/policies/policies_home.html
