Activate your zMail account

Before you can use the zMail service you need to activate and set up your zMail account. This activation requires obtaining an initial Windows Live ID password (as the service is hosted by Microsoft) and setting some preferences. Activation is a once-only setup.

If you encounter any errors in the zMail account setup process, contact the IT Service Centre.

Step 1 - Obtain an initial Windows Live ID password

NOTE: The Windows Live ID password you will obtain in this step is only used for the initial setup of your account. You do not need to remember it beyond this initial setup.

1. Go the to zMail Get Password web address: http://www.zmail.unsw.edu.au/getpass

2. Enter your UNSW User ID (in the form of 'z1234567') in the username field and your UniPass password, in the UniPass field, then click 'Get Password'

3. Your initial Windows Live ID password will be displayed on this page (below). You need to copy this down (or copy it to the clipboard) for use in the next step. Note: This is a once-only password for account creation. It does not replace your UniPass.

If you need to access this Windows Live ID password again in the future simply repeat the above steps.

Step 2 - Log in to zMail

NOTE - the web address below is different to the 'Get Password' address used in the previous step.

1. Go to the zMail web address: http://www.zmail.unsw.edu.au

2. Enter your UNSW User ID (in the form of 'z1234567') in the username field and your UniPass password, in the UniPass field then click 'Log in' (Do not enter the Windows Live ID password in the UniPass field)
