zMail Setup Instructions

zMail Settings:

IMAP
Server name: outlook.office365.com
Port: 993
Encryption method: SSL

Exchange
Server name: outlook.office365.com
Port: 443
Encryption method: SSL

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Server name: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS

Setup Instructions:

  • Select settings
  • Select 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'
  • Select 'Add Account...'
  • Select 'Microsoft Exchange'
  • Enter your zMail address in the format 'z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Enter your Microsoft ID password and an appropriate description of this account
  • Select 'Next'
  • On the next screen to appear enter the server: outlook.office365.com
  • Leave 'Domain' blank and enter your Microsoft ID as the username: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Select 'Next' and the mail application will verify your settings
  • Once verified, you can choose which mail items you wish to download to your iPad and select 'Save'

  • On the Windows Phone desktop scroll down to the arrow icon and select it
  • Select 'Settings' in the list that appears
  • Select 'email+accounts'
  • Select 'add an account'
  • In the 'Add an Account' list, select 'Outlook'
  • Enter your zMail address in the format: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Enter your Microsoft ID password and select 'sign in'
  • If prompted to enter additional settings, select 'Advanced and enter the username as your Windows live ID: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au and the server is outlook.office365.com
  • Once verified, this will save automatically

  • Select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Add account'
  • Select 'Email'
  • Enter your zMail address in the format: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Enter your Microsoft ID password
  • You will then be prompted to select an account type: POP3 - IMAP - Exchange
  • For:

    • POP3
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 995
    • Encryption method: SSL
      IMAP
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 993
    • Encryption method: SSL
      Exchange
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 443
    • Encryption method: SSL

  • Select 'Next' after entering the required server details to proceed
  • Under 'SMTP Server', change the default entry to: smtp.office365.com
  • Select 'Next' to save these settings and close the setup screen

  • Launch the Apple Mail application if not already opened
  • In the menu bar at the top of the screen select 'Mail' and select 'Preferences'
  • Select 'Accounts' at the top of the popup window
  • Select the '+' at the bottom left hand side of this window to add your zMail account
  • In the next window to appear enter your zMail address in the format: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Enter your Microsoft ID password and select 'Continue'
  • In the next window, enter the following details:
    • Account Type: Exchange IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Username: your zMail address (z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au)
    • Outlook Web Access Server: outlook.office365.com
  • Select 'Continue'
  • In the next window enter the 'Outgoing Mail Server' as smtp.office365.com
  • Select 'Continue'
  • Select 'Create'

  • Launch Thunderbird if not already opened
  • Under the 'Accounts' section select 'Email' under the 'Create a new account' headding
  • You may be prompted to create a new email address, select the 'Skip this and use my existing email' button at the bottom left
  • In the window that appears, enter your zMail address in the format: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au'
  • Enter your Microsoft ID password
  • Select 'Continue'
  • You will then need to enter your server details which are dependant on the type of incomming connection you choose
  • For incoming type:
    • POP3
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 995
    • SSL: SSL
    • Authentication: Normal Password
      IMAP
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 993
    • SSL: SSL
    • Authentication: Normal Password
      Exchange
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 443
    • SSL: SSL
    • Authentication: Normal Password

  • Change the following Outgoing server details

    • Server name: smtp.office365.com
    • Port: 587
    • SSL: STARTTLS
    • Authentication: Normal Password
  • Enter your Username as your zMail address: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • Select 'Done'

  • Select the start button to open the start menu
  • Select 'Control Panel'
  • In the window that appears, select 'Mail (32 bit)'
  • Select 'E-mail Accounts...'
  • In the 'Accounts Settings' window select 'New'
  • Select the radio button for 'E-mail Account' in the window that appears and select 'Next'
  • Select the radio button for 'Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  • Select 'Next'
  • Select the radio button for 'Internet E-mail'
  • Select 'Next'
  • Enter your name in new window that appears
  • Enter your email address in the format: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • You will then need to enter your server details which are dependant on the type of incomming connection you choose
  • For incoming type:

    • POP3
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 995
    • Encryption method: SSL
    • Authentication: Normal Password

    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 993
    • Encryption method: SSL

      Exchange
    • Server name: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 443
    • Encryption method: SSL
    • Authentication: Normal Password

  • Change the following Outgoing server details
    • Server name: smtp.office365.com
    • Port: 587
    • Encryption method: STARTTLS
    • Authentication: Normal Password
  • The User Name will be your zMail address: z1234567@zmail.unsw.edu.au
  • The password is your Microsoft ID password
  • Next select the 'More Settings...' button
  • In the new pop up window, select the 'Outoing Server' tab and ensure the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' checkbox is selected
  • Select the 'Advanced' tab and update the server settings as appropriate for the account type you have originally setup
  • Select 'Ok'
  • Select 'Next'
  • Select 'Finish'
