UNSW IT Position Statement for Apple OS X El Capitan (10.11)

What is happening?

In November 2015, UNSW IT is expecting to provide OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" as the new "Mac Cloud Platform” offering, and will be completing upgrades to various applications to ensure compatibility during October/November.

We request all "Mac SOE" users to not attempt to perform the "El Capitan” upgrade themselves until we make further announcements of the above supported November release plan.

Once our release is finalised you will receive the new "Mac Cloud Platform" as follows:

All New Mac orders for staff purchased from Mid November

  • UNSW IT will install OS X 10.11 and configure them with the new "Mac Cloud Platform"
  • Please note, there may be some initial bugs with the OS and apps and not all apps will be available at the start.

Early Adopters
  • You may request to be part of the pilot program by logging a service request via the Service Centre.
  • Your Mac will then be manually rebuilt by the Desktop Support Team in mid/late October.
  • Please note, there may be some initial bugs with the OS and apps and not all apps will be available at the start.

Existing Mac SOE users
  • An on-demand package to self initiate a rebuild of these Macs to the Cloud is being designed and is expected to be available for use in late November.
  • Remaining "Mac SOE" users will be migrated to the "Mac Cloud Platform" during 2016.
