Ways of Accessing your Mailbox

You can access your Exchange email account from desktop computers, laptops, web browsers and and handheld devices such as BlackBerrys and iPhones.

Upgrading to Cloud Email

Desktop & Laptops computers:
You can access your Exchange email account from work or home using an email client such as Outlook (PC) or Entourage (Mac) or via a web browser (see below).

Via a web browser
You can access your Exchange email account via most popular web browsers. When you log into the URL below, you are using Outlook Web Access (OWA), which has a similar look and feel to the desktop versions of Outlook. OWA offers a ‘light’ or ‘full’ version. The full version is only available to PC users using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. The light version is best for slow internet connections but does not offer as many features as the full version. Safari (Mac), Firefox and earlier versions of Internet Explorer run only the light version of OWA.

Handheld portable devices (browser-enabled mobile phones)
Handheld portable devices that support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (eg iPhone 3GS) can access UNSW Exchange email providing they have obtained prior approval as follows:

  • If the mobile device is UNSW owned, setup can be requested via the IT Service Desk.
  • No approval is required for personally owned devices. Setup information can be found in the 'Setup Instructions for iPhone, iPad and Android' section of this page 'Using E-mail Clients to Access Exchange'.
Logging into your Exchange Email Account

Your username for accessing your Exchange email account is a 'z' followed by your staff number, in the form of 'z1234567'. Your password is your zPass. To find out more about these topics visit the Username page.

If you are using a new UNSW SOE Desktop, then logging in to your computer will automatically log you into your Exchange email account.
