About the zPass system

zPass is the primary password system for UNSW. It is gradually replacing the legacy UniPass system. zPass is used for primary online services such as myUNSW, UNSW Staff Email, UNSW SOE desktop computers and UniWide wireless (see full list below).

What is a zPass?

A zPass is a password. You use your zPass along with your 'z number' User ID to access services that are zPass enabled.

What is a z number?

A z number is the username that is used in conjunction with the a zPass. It is your staff ID (staff number) with a z prefix in the form of z1234567. To find out more about your staff number and prefixes visit the usernames page.

When logging into systems requiring a zPass do the following:

  • Staff who currently have an ‘s’ staff number, simply replace the ‘s’ with a ‘z’ (so that s1234567 becomes z1234567)
  • Staff who currently have a ‘z’ number – simply use this as it is
